Philosophy of Work

“Bridge, a metaphor that comes to my mind when I think about what work is”.

Through work, people are paid to support a desirable life; through work, people are able to realize their self-worth by giving full play to their talents. The society we live in seems to regard work as the center of the gears, and the functioning of work brings economic development and the advancement of civilization to the society. Work is like an intricate web that inextricably links the whole world together.

For me at this stage - a soon-to-be-graduate who is still under the protection of the campus environment - I think the greatest significance of work for me is that it gives me the opportunity to realize an independent life. Rather than thinking of grand visions from the start, I seem to be more of a pragmatic person at this stage because I have to take care of myself before I can help others. I need to work so that I can form a closed loop of so-called self-sufficiency. I need to work so that I can have the ability to live independently as well as face society independently. And then comes the realization of self-worth and the thought of contributing to society as a whole.

My three main core values are adventure, honesty and friends. I will implement these values in my work, and I also hope that work will give me the confidence to fulfill and realize these values. As an adventurous person, I don't like to be stuck in the same routine, I want to be in or contribute to an innovative work environment, and I'm willing to accept new things and apply them to my work. At the same time, I want my work to give me the ability to see the world. I want to be able to enjoy the diversity of the world outside of work. I feel that people need to expand their horizons on a regular basis, and that our environments are limiting, which can lead to a lack of information and a lack of progress. I hope that my work will give me enough to broaden my horizons.

Secondly, honesty is a quality that I value highly. I feel that honesty maximizes productivity. Regardless of the level, open and transparent communication or negotiation is beneficial. For example, when employees honestly state their needs and abilities, the company can more efficiently formulate and allocate work according to individual strengths; and when the company meets the demands of employees, it can obtain a more stable and loyal workforce. A stable and sincere company atmosphere will also provide a cohesive force when the company encounters difficulties, thus realizing rapid development of the company as a whole. Moreover, I think that the negative effects of dishonesty in the workplace can sometimes be devastating, and this is not only against one's own will, but also may have a negative impact on many innocent families and even society as a whole.

Lastly, I feel that my friends are a very valuable source of luck and wealth in my life. My life is enriched by having good friends, and I want my friends to feel lucky for having me. In fact, I hear a lot of talk in life about how hard it is for coworkers to become friends because of the inevitable conflict of interest or competition. But I still hope that everyone in the work team can treat each other as teammates fighting side by side, I like to put down all personal feelings toward the same goal of the atmosphere, after all, only the company or the world is better, each of our lives will become better. Work in most cases is accompanied by stress, mental tension and anxiety, I think a team that treats each other as friends can soothe a lot of inner turmoil, and thus work more comfortably.

Of course, all of the above is more from my personal perspective of what I look forward to and what work means to me at this stage. In the long run, work, as the center of the gears, is about making the whole society work better. I want to bring my values to help build a society that is diverse, inclusive, efficient and open to new things.
